Breaking The Habit Part 4
8:30 AM
Liam sat silent on the edge of his bed, he had to leave for college in ten minutes, he couldn't miss today, him, Jimmy and Danny were having a band practice, but he wasn't thinking about them, he was staring at his wrist, in fear and horror. Slowly he looked further up his arm, nothing but a mass of half-healed cuts, along-side a few slowly half-fading scars and a barely clotted cut amongst the half healed and healing, turning his gaze to the other arm, he only saw the same thing.
"This has GOT to end, I just can't go on doing this forever" he slowly muttered as he pulled his shirt on, making sure the sleeves were rolled down, turning to pick up his bag he glanced in the mirror. It had been almost a year since he'd had a hair-cut, when he started college five weeks ago it had been just above his shoulders, now it was an inch below and his fringe was almost as long, yet his still insisted on having it flop over in front of his eyes.
He'd forgotten all about it all by the time he got half way to college, all he craved was a hot cup of coffee and just possibly a slice of cheese on toast from the cafeteria.
He got the coffee, but the cheese on toast was a letdown, they were all out of cheese
"And the grill's broken anyway" Came the excuse
"OK, just the strong black coffee then" Liam said rubbing his eye's with his sleeve and stifling a yawn
He sat in the corner, with his bass guitar in its case on the table in front of him. The case was a special one, it had a pocket in the front which was lined to make it rigid, this was where he stored all his song lyrics, He also kept a spare note-book in there in case he had a sudden flash of inspiration. Flicking through to find a blank page he came across one of his oldest writings, written when he was still living at home, it was almost a year old

Wednesday October 9th
She did it again
I knew she would
If I don't get out of here
This time next year
It may as well be the end

Another day
Another night
Another way
Another fight

She blames it all on me
All that's going wrong
Well soon it'll be too late
No sorry can change this hate
Because it'll be the end

Another day
Another night
Another way
Another fight

Why does it have to be this way?
Why can't she see this time?
If she keeps going on this way
Then she'll be the one someday
To say it was better my way

Another day
Another night
Another way
I WON'T FIGHT!

"Wow" he whispered to himself
"What?"
"WHAT?! Oh Allie it's you, you scared me" He looked around almost spilling his coffee on his note-book
"Sorry dude, didn't mean ta scare ya" She sat down opposite him
"It's ok"
"What ya readin' anyway?"
"Oh, it's just some old stuff, I wrote it nearly a year ago, but it's pretty crappy really"
"Oh I see…"
"How long were you standing there?"
"Only a few seconds" she smiled, the tips of her hair were Green this morning and she was sporting a skinny fit black T-shirt with a union Jack emblazoned across the front and the phrase 'Power to the British' across the back, above a pair of cut-off baggy black jeans.
Just then a tall boy with long frizzy hair walked in, and straight over to where they were sitting, he could play guitar, but he wasn't the kind of guitarist, or even person you'd want in a band.
"This is my table" he tried to sound as if he had authority over them
"Get lost Thompson before I whack you round your brainless head with my bass" Liam said calmly to him draining his cup of coffee and grimacing at the mank left in the bottom
'Thompson' looked confused, shrugged, grunted, and walked away…
Allie just stared from Liam to 'Thompson' for a few seconds, then burst out laughing
"How do you know his names Thompson?"
"I don't, he just looked like a Thompson" Liam smiled and laughed, which just made Allie burst out again.
A minute later she finally stopped laughing and started pulling things out of her bag
"I got you something last night, but I couldn't find you after college so I bought it with me today for you"
"Oh thanks" He was interested to see what she'd bought him, it wasn't everyday somebody bought you something after all.
"Ah, found 'em" she pulled two pairs of gloves from her bag, Black and Purple striped fingerless gloves, one short pair and one long
"There you go Li, your hands won't get cold anymore" She beamed at him as he took them from her
"Thanks Al, I've been looking for a pair of these for ages" He was only half telling the truth, he had been looking for a pair, but only since a week before.
"That's good then" she watched closely as he pulled on a pair. He noticed her watching and how her face fell, he looked down and noticed that he'd been careless and as he pulled them on, his shirtsleeve didn't remain over his arm.
"Liam" she said quietly
"Uh…yeah…"
"What have you been doing?"
He didn't answer her, he couldn't, he wouldn't.
"Liam" she raised her voice a tiny bit
"WHAT?!" He stared wide-eyed as he realised he'd raised his voice at her
She looked him in the eye before getting to her feet and walking around to his side of the table
"Put your stuff away and we'll go talk somewhere else, okay?" she almost whispered in his ear, but she didn't sound bossy, more worried and concerned. He obeyed her and followed her up to the library
Under cover of the bookshelves she turned to him again. She had that look in her eye that said 'I don't want you to tell me any lie's but I don't think I want to know the truth either'. But she asked him again
"Liam, what did you do?" So nobody else heard she was so close to him he could almost feel her heart beat against his arm.
He didn't say anything, but he looked around and silently pulled his sleeve all the way up, as far as it would go. She stared in horror at what she saw. Slowly she stretched out her hand and laid it on his arm, she was almost surprised by the warmth of it under her own, suddenly cold hand and looked up suddenly into his face, almost expressionless, it was hard to tell what he was thinking. She heard a movement a few shelves away and panicked, hastily she pulled her hand away and pulled Liam's sleeve down for him, and in the nick of time too. Daniella walked around the corner seconds later and stared in shock, and horror to see Allie so close to Liam.
"Oh Hi Daniella, I don't think you've really met Liam here have you?" Allie was uncomfortable but managed to hide the fact rather well
"No, we haven't…met…"
"Liam this is Daniella Magiltin, Daniella, Liam Lewis…"
"Err, Hi Daniella" Liam said weakly, he'd gone very pale and felt as if he was going to pass out "Hey Al, I need to disappear for a bit, want me to meet you back here at break?" he muttered in Allie's ear
"Sure" she thought she was just going to let him walk away, but as he went to, she grabbed hold of his arm and pulled him back into an almost neck-breaking hug - which only made Daniella's blood boil even more (If that was at all possible) - Which he gratefully returned.
"Sorry I shouted at you earlier" he whispered to her before finally departing
For a few seconds she stared after him before returning her attention to Daniella, who was glaring at her.
"What? What did I do?" She was genuinely confused
"You! You know that I like him, why didn't you tell me you and him were an item?" Daniella seemed about to over-heat with anger and rage
"What? Me and Liam? Dani, there's nothing between me and Li at all"
"Well it didn't look like it!"
"Dani, stop shouting, look trust me, there is NOTHING between me n Li"
"He hugs every girl he knows then?"
"Dani, stop getting all wound up about nothing, and I'd suggest NOT going after him just n-"
"Wouldn't dream of stealin' your man offa you" Daniella made to turn away and walk off, but Allie grabbed her arm
"Dani, I'm telling you the truth here, there is nothing between me and him, there's nothing between him an anyone in this place, or at all as far as I know, just lay off, there's some things that even I don't understand about him, trust me" she looked sincere, it was only this fact that persuaded Daniella that she was in fact telling the truth.
"Ok, I believe you"
Allie let go of her arm and turned away, she looked down at her other hand and almost passed out
-Oh no some of those weren't old…-
Quickly she shoved her hand into her pocket and made a hasty exit from the library.
